About this work
When a yard slopes, steps and walls are what make it usable. We replace worn timber or brick steps with solid granite or segmental block, set on a proper footing so they stay level, and tie them into a walkway that drains.
Retaining walls hold a grade change and give you a flat lawn or bed where there was a slope. We build them with drainage behind the wall, not just in front of it, so they stand through New England freeze and thaw.

Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?
Small garden walls usually do not. Taller walls can, and the rules differ town to town. We will tell you what applies to your wall and your town before we start.
Can you replace my old steps without redoing the whole walkway?
Yes. Steps can be rebuilt on their own, and we can tie new steps into an existing walk. If the walk is failing too, we will say so and quote both ways.
